As someone who's currently engaged in the job hunt...

http://www.indeed.com/ (http://www.indeed.com/)  --  My personal favorite.
http://www.careerbuilder.com/ (http://www.careerbuilder.com/)
http://www.dice.com/ (http://www.dice.com/) - For tech related jobs.
http://www.simplyhired.com/ (http://www.simplyhired.com/) - Similar to Indeed.

Craigslist.

Here's a link to another posting about how to find a better job and things like that that popped up on lifehacker during the week, as well:

http://lifehacker.com/5894136/top-10-ways-to-get-a-better-job (http://lifehacker.com/5894136/top-10-ways-to-get-a-better-job)

Good luck, man.  It's tough.

Also, check out specific company websites, as well.

Additionally, if you get an interview somewhere and you want to see a review of that company, glassdoor.com provides user submitted reviews for a TON of different companies.

I'll second indeed.com. I've gotten a few interviews from applications I filled out with them.

Here's another vote for Indeed.com, that's where I found my current job.

Also, check out any of the Regional Help Wanted websites.  Here in NY, I used the Capital Area specific one and got a few job offers.  It was nice to have those in hand when talking to my current employer.

The Belote Boat sounds like an awesome name for a wrestling stable.

Theme song? "I'm On A Boat"-Lonely Island

I could totally pervert more songs into something SHOOT related, but I wanna finish this match first.

Maybe later.

I don't have time to write my match in between classes, so I can!

I won't, but I can.  Don't want to detail Kidd's job hunt thread any further.

I filed for unemployment, I'm filling out apps online. The girlfriends dad is out of town so I stayed over there all week as sort of an unpaid vacation. An of course my tooth issues have returned and I'm having severe issues with that so I'm gonna try and get it taken care of in the morning

I assume, what with you being impoverished and possibly no longer insured.

I fucking hate online job applications, which is odd because I love everything impersonal and electronic.

With paper I know exactly what an employer is looking at. With an online application, sometimes I have no idea what the final product looks like and I've had things get lost in translation or get cut off, making my application look inept.

Fucking computers.

They're awesome until they don't work exactly how I want them to.

Title: Re: job hunting
Post by: The Gunslingers on June 19, 2012, 10:04:30 PM
I may have missed out on a potential job because of lousy cell phone reception. I had a phone interview today with a travel agency but 30 seconds into the call i lsot reception and it was dropped. I then called back and 45 seconds in the callw as dropped again. I tried calling back a couple minutes later on a landline and my cellphone and got an answering machine both times. I'm going to try calling abck tommorrow if i dont get an answer I'm going to go there on Thursday.

Update on my job situation:

early in the week I got a few nights working as a doorman/bouncer at one of the strip joints in my area. it's not reliable work though because it's considered a "independent contractor" gig...but it is cash in hand so I made a few extra bucks from it.

I've applied for security positions at two of the hospitals in my area, and I REALLY hope I get a call back from one of them. They listed a shitload of security openings recently and I applied for every single one.

I like the sound of it. On that same token, Eastern Regional Jail is hiring entry level correctional officers in my neck of the woods right now, and I applied for all of those positions too. I have a friend who works there, so hopefully he can put in a good word for me.
