A Walk Among the Tombstones
A movie set in 1999 that feels like it would have come out in 1999. Think 8mm meets Kiss the Girls, but not anywhere as intense as the former. Solid little thriller with characters you can actually like and a steady pace, but nothing remarkable.

Carrie
The remake. The recent one, I mean. Completely unnecessary. The CGI was poorly done, the pacing never let anything really sink in, and whoever told Chloe Grace Moretz to act like a generic scary ghost during the prom scene was wrong on every level. The positives are Julianne Moore (who is a bit hammy, but the more I watch her the more I enjoy her), Chloe outside of that scene, the girl who played Chris (PERFECT casting, legit, she was spot-on as a spoiled twat), the kid who played Tommy (he genuinely came off as just a nice guy), and Judy Greer (who can pretty much do no wrong anyway, but she totally carries this movie whenever she's around).

Annabelle
As much as I loved The Conjuring is as much as a disappointment this one was. There's a few really great parts (the basement/elevator scene was PERFECT and may be one of the most effective scenes in recent horror history), a really solid supporting performance (by Father Mendez, as the leads are milquetoast as fuck), and great cinematography, but the pacing is terrible and the predictable plot makes no attempt at all at hinting toward deviation. Such a shame, too.

Pain and Gain
Throwaway watch whilst I was working. Articles online are better than this movie (the articles are excellent though). The Rock is easily the best character in this, he even makes friends with Monk!

Bad Neighbors
Pretty enjoyable, I now need to go take a wash with carbolic soap as I admitted a Zac Efron film is enjoyable. Plays out like pretty much every Seth Rogen film. Will probably rewatch when stoned.

Fury

At times a bit uneven, this movie is a solid blend of gritty war film and Hollywood action flick, all carried by a surprisingly magnificent cast. Jon Bernthal in particular is outstanding, and even Shia carries his weight. If the final scenes don't have you simultaneously sad yet pleased, a sort of bittersweet closing, then I question your humanity.

Begin Again.   Really enjoyed the two leads, and I love movies that have a love affair with music.  So I liked it.

The Babadook:
Very claustrophobic and nauseating Horror film. Everything about it made me feel uneasy rather than adrenaline.

How I Live Now:
A coming of age film with an apocalyptic back drop. Surprised by how good this was to a point that it may be the best film i've seen this year. But won't be on my 2014 list as it came out in 2013. Well worth watching (And it's on Netflix too.)

Jack Reacher.

Very solid action film. Decent mystery plotline, Cruise was believable and fit the role well.

The Danish Girl.

It was okay, but it felt like "we've made a well shot film about a tranny to win an oscar" rather than the "lets send a positive message to trans people" film it pretends to be.

Afflicted.

Thought it was going to be one of those shit found footage films to watch in the background. Instead it was pretty good and better than the posters netflix had me believe.

Some Like It Hot...watched it sporadically when I had a second. Jack Lemon and...the other guy that was in it were both pretty funny, for the 1950's or 60's.

Marilyn Monroe was so, so, so fucking sexy and wasn't an awful actress, considering where acting was at the time.
