I'm angry with myself that I haven't watched one episode of Community yet.

Question for the Community faithful: My favorite TV comedies are It's Always Sunny & The League. Based on that, would I like Community?

Yes, absolutely.

You would. It's not nearly as raunchy but it's waaaaaaaaaaay more clever than both of those shows combined. If you enjoy meta humor and/or nerd references? Community's up your alley.

Plus? Gillian Jacobs and Alison Brie. As I stated in my first reply.

As a fellow fan of those shows? I think you would. It shares the "disfunctional social group" that is self absorbed, but like drezzy said is no where near as raunchy.  Also something it has is a Has a great collection of recurring and fringe characters.

I'd easily say Community > The League, and Always Sunny is proving to be pretty damn iffy upon repeat viewings. Community, though, I find to be brilliant on a constant basis.

You know, I loved Always Sunny for a good long time but I find myself not enjoying the reruns like I thought I would.  There are some serious gems that I can watch forever and ever (basically if it involves Nightman, it's fucking gold to me), but those feel less and less prominent.

Well I FINALLY got around to checking out Community. I watched the first five episodes from Season 1. I definitely don't like it as much as It's Always Sunny and probably never will, mainly because I'm a sucker for the vulgar humor and It's Always Sunny is like the perfect comedy for me personally, so it'll likely always be at the top of my laugh-inducing pyramid...

BUT...with that being said, Community is a funny ass show, and it's way better than most of the other stuff I've watched on TV lately. I was really surprised by the star power of this show (Chevy Chase, Joel McHale, Ken Jeong) just those three alone are a recipe for shits n' giggles. Plus my penis likes the chick who plays Britta, so there's that too. So far Pierce is probably my favorite character with Jeff being a close second. I never watched The Soup, so this is the first time I'm seeing what Joel McHale brings to the funny table, and I'm finding that he's a pretty hilarious dude.

Forgot to add, I also watched a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory to broaden my spectrum of tv shows a little more.

I'm assuming it's an acquired taste, because I fucking hated that show almost immediately and with great passion.

I hated the Big Bang Theory too at first. Mostly because Jim Parsons doesn't deserve two Emmys to Steve Carell's ZERO. And after having watched the show, he really doesn't.

The show is okay, but its just typical sitcom writing over the guise of nerd things.

I've watched BBT several times.

I still fucking hate that show.  It's just a comedy about nerds.  It is NOT a comedy for nerds.

Meanwhile, season 1 of Community has a lot of finding its feet sort of moments, but there is sooo much awesome in season 2.  It's insane.  THAT is comedy for nerds.

This. I don't mind BBT nearly as much as others do (again, Kaley Cuoco is perfect casting because she's approachable hot, and a lot of the episodes heavily involving Raj and Howard are very funny), but Community is a true nerd comedy that just happens to feature people a hundred times cooler than anybody on BBT.

Well said. That's also probably why TBBT is a massive hit for CBS thanks to the unwashed masses, while no one watches Community but us internet nerds.

This. I seriously dislike Sheldon's character and rarely (if ever) laugh at him for any reason.

I like Leonard, though I don't think it's a GREAT role. It's just a centric role which helps pull the entire show together.

Howard Wolowitz and Raj Kuthurpali are amazing. Can't get enough.

And shout out to Bernadette (HOT and funny) and Amy Farrah Fowler (awesome).

Community is a true nerd comedy that just happens to feature people a hundred times cooler than anybody on BBT.

While I agree, for the most part, don't underestimate the coolness of Brown Dynamite.

Who needs Brown Dynamite when you've got Troy and Abed in the Morrrrrrrrrrning?

QFT.

Still, I'd love to see Kuthurpali as part of the study group.  I could imagine him only talking when Annie and Britta were out of the room, Shirley getting upset every time because Raj can talk around her even though she's a woman, and any time someone mentioned Annie's Boobs, he'd giggle and whisper in someone's ear.

Imagine if he were part of the paintball wars episodes?

Wait, BBT does paintball, too....

Troy: Candy corn looks like tiny traffic cones.
Abed: Yeah, it sure does.
Troy: At, like, a candy traffic school.
Abed: Yeah.
Troy: Little ginger bread man is at the wheel, and he's drunk.
Abed: Look out!
Troy: You keep driving, but you keep wanting to eat yourself.
Abed: All day.
Troy: That's one of my biggest fears.
Abed: What is?
Troy: If I ever woke up as a donut...
Abed: You would eat yourself.
Troy: I wouldn't even question it.
Abed: That'd be tasty.
Troy: It's cool to know other people think about this stuff, too.
Abed: Yeah.

Jeff: I’m saying, you’re a football player. It’s in your blood!
Troy: That’s racist.
Jeff: Your soul.
Troy: That’s racist.
Jeff: Your eyes?
Troy: That’s gay?
Jeff: That’s homophobic.
Troy: That’s black.
Jeff: That’s racist.
Troy: Damn.

Troy: I'm a Dracula.
Abed: You mean a vampire?
Troy: I don't need to know which Dracula I am to be a Dracula. Nerd.

Troy: I remember when I was being punched in the face.  First I was like OH NO!  But then I realized...this is a story...!

I could do this all day.

I definitely see what you mean by this. Honestly the first two episodes I watched from Season 1 kinda made me go "meh" and I wasn't sold on the show, but as the show continues it just keeps improving and becoming more and more hilarious. The characters have this amazing chemistry with each other that's hard to find in sitcoms these days. I'm really looking forward to Season 2 now based on all the positive feedback it's gotten.

Season 2 is probably one of the best seasons for any sitcom ever. I'll stand by that.

Definitely stick it out to season 2.  I just watched 4-7 of season one.  and 5, 6, and 7 you really see them starting to hit their stride. I think you can really tell this with what they do "post episode", with their little clips regularly starring Troy and Abed.  So you get candy corn traffic school.   They are really funny episodes.  Hard for me to stop watching.
